Valencia Brothers Become 20th and 21st Wrestlers in CIF History to Win Three Crowns
BAKERSFIELD — The 43rd annual CIF State Boys Wrestling Championships presented by Farmers concluded on Saturday as Clovis won a fifth consecutive State title, scoring a State record 276.5 points, for a record 13th State Championship overall. Poway (189.5) and San Marino (128.0) secured second and third place respectively.
Four-time State finalist Anthony Valencia (170-pounds), a senior from St. John Bosco, won his third State Championship, while fellow St. John Bosco senior, Zahid Valencia (182-pounds) also won his third State crown. The Valencia brothers became the 20th and 21st wrestlers in CIF State Boys Wrestling Championships history to win three State titles. Three-time State finalist, Wyatt Wyckoff (138-pounds) concluded his high school career with his first State title. Additionally, claiming a second State crown was Justin Mejia (113-pounds), a sophomore from Clovis and winning his first State Championship, as a freshman, was Cade Olivas (106-pounds) of St. John Bosco.
