Buchanan Boys Win Ninth State Wrestling Championship and Clovis East Girls Win First State Wrestling Title at 2025 CIF State Championships
BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. — The CIF State Wrestling Championships concluded on Saturday as the Buchanan boys won their ninth State title with 247.5 points. Rounding out the top three boys teams were Poway (240 points) and Gilroy (239 points) securing second and third place respectively. For the girls, Clovis East won their first State Championship scoring 84.5 points, with Northview (77 points) and Buchanan (68) placing second and third respectively.
Isabella Marie Gonzales (120-pounds), a senior from Clovis East and Leilani Lemus (170-pounds), a junior from Clovis join an elite club of three-time State Champions (now five total). While Daniel Zepeda (150-pounds), a senior from Gilroy becomes only the 24th boys three-time State Champ.
Additionally, three girls joined the 15 other State Champs won by a freshman; Ella Cohen (105-pounds) from Palo Alto, Aubree Gutierrez (110-pounds) from Marina and Epenesa Elison (115-pounds) of Los Altos, along with Samuel Sanchez (106-pounds) from Esperanza who joined the 18 other freshman boys who have won a State title.
